Jahiel Ruso Appealed Against the Satirical Newspaper Ruža

Jahiel Ruso, a merchant and a president of the Jewish Religious School Community, appealed to the Administration of the Town of Belgrade on behalf of the Serbian citizens of Jewish nationality, regarding the two articles published in a satirical newspaper Ruza (Rose) against Jews. The Administration informed Ruso that they had no jurisdiction over the matter and advised to address to the Ministry of the Interior.

The Ministry of Finances communicated to the Administration of the Town of Belgrade regarding the appeal which Jakov and Moša Maclija had filed against the Belgrade Customs over the penalty fee collected from them for the imported scarves. The Administration was requested to form a commission which would assess if the scarves were made of cotton, as they claimed, or of silk as the Customs claimed.
